So, that’s something to consider if you’re safety conscious. They may have been there, the first boat had writing that indicated there were 10 (I think) child life vests on board, but I didn’t know where they were or how to get to them, and to my knowledge, it was not mentioned. One thing to note: I did not see any life jackets on either boat. Also, it’s probably a good idea to pack a rain jacket in case a storm quickly rolls in. If you try to book another excursion afterwards, be sure to leave plenty of time. If you decide to book this excursion, it’s probably wise to expect it to take longer than the posted duration. It was fun to see the fish up close and take a peek under the sea. It was definitely something different from daily life. I had another tour booked for the afternoon which I unfortunately missed because of that. Though the information on the Royal Caribbean app said this tour would run about an hour and 45 minutes, it ended up taking a full 3 hours. The bus drove us back to the gangway where we showed our IDs and Sea Pass cards and walked back to the ship. Once we were on the bus, many of the streets which were dry on our way out had been flooded from the rain. This time the plastic coverings were down along the sides, but some of the people sitting along the outside of the boat still got soaked. ![]() Our first boat arrived and we carefully stepped back onto it. While we waited, it started to rain, and a storm quickly rolled in over us. We climbed back up the stairs, tipped the semi-submarine tour guide and waited. When the tour was complete, we returned back to our meeting spot to wait for the first boat. We spent about 45 minutes cruising around and learning. The tour guide told us what types of fish we were observing and also explained some aspects of Bahamian culture and fishing. They swam right up to the boat and followed alongside as the captain dropped food off the deck. The boat took off and after a few minutes we arrived at a protected coral reef area where we saw several schools of fish. This boat was well seasoned, and below the deck, it had a long narrow hull with glass windows and a pull-down seat stationed in front of each window. We tipped our tour guide and carefully stepped over the ocean below onto the second ship, then immediately went down a flight of stairs to the bottom of the vessel. Coral Reefs of Athol IslandĪfter about 15 or 20 minutes, we arrived at the semi-submarine waiting off Athol Island. He also shared a little about living in the Bahamas and took questions from the passengers. Along the way, he pointed out magnificent celebrity homes overlooking the harbor. We took off and the tour guide gave an interesting tour and also told some good jokes. There was a two-person crew: the captain and a tour guide. We parked along the street, got off the bus, and walked back to board the first boat which was tied up to makeshift rebar cleet and ready to take us to the semi-submarine. Along the way, we enjoyed an informative and humorous tour. We drove through Nassau and over the Sidney Poitier Bridge to Paradise Island. The groups with wristbands boarded one bus, and those without went to the others. At 9:15 on the dot, we walked off the pier to the buses waiting on the street. Some groups were given wristbands, ours wasn’t. There were several tours by the same company, heading to Atlantis. I showed one of the women directing the tourists my ticket and she instructed me to a large line and told me to follow anyone with a purple shirt. ![]() ![]() The meetup for the excursion was right outside the gangway, on the pier. There was also a longer version of this excursion available, which included an additional tour around Nassau in the bus, but I opted for the short tour in order to also do an afternoon excursion. The excursion was scheduled for 9:00 am on port day and was expected to last about an hour and 45 minutes. The Seaworld Explorer Experience in Nassau was one of many excursions offered throughout the cruise, and we couldn’t pass it up! It offered a chance to ride over protected coral reefs off Athol Island in a semi-submarine. Our experience on Oasis of the Seas was no exception. Excursions are a great chance to have some extra fun on your vacation.
